British Cycling Level 2 MTB Leadership Award – Training |

TRAINING

This qualification provides experienced mountain bikers with the necessary skills to safely guide other riders on off-road terrain. Run over 2 days, the award is ideal for anyone with an interest in mountain biking, who is either working in the outdoor sector, volunteering at a club or simply has a personal interest in gaining additional skills.

The course covers topics such as planning and delivery of rides, leading techniques for effective group management, map reading and navigation, management of accidents and emergencies, equipment set-up, trailside repairs and core mountain bike techniques. 

These skills can be used to go out on a mountain bike, be safe and have fun.

This course is run over two days.

Coed Y Brenin is the original and still one of the best trail centres in the UK. It is perfect for all levels and abilities, from someone just getting into riding up to those who want to push their limits. There is an awesome skills area where we can help you develop your skills. The extensive trail network means we can pick the best trail to help you develop your skills. Coed Y Brenin is also just a fantastic environment to be in, with massive forests, great waterfalls and amazing views.

  • Beics Brenin. A fully stocked shop with bikes for hire. Hire bikes must be booked by the client before the coaching session.

  • A Café serving hot and cold food.

  • Changing rooms, showers and toilets.

  • Car park – please note you may need to pay for your parking.

Course Information

Before your course

  • Please complete our Rider Information Form for each participant.
  • For LEADERSHIP courses please ensure you have the appropriate level of British Cycling Membership. Ride or Silver Race as a minimum.

Location and Timings

  • The postcode for Coed y Brenin is LL40 2HZ.
  • The Course will start at 9 am and will finish no later than 6pm
  • Your tutor will meet you in the classrooms at the side of the Visitor’s Centre.
  • Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before the start of the session.

What to bring on the Day

  • A clean bike and helmet in good condition
  • Suitable clothing for the conditions.
  • Rucsac, spares and trail side repair tool (Leadership Only)
  • Spare layers.
  • Gloves and glasses.
  • Notebook and pen
  • British Cycling resources received on registration.
  • Food.  There is a cafe on site 

Programme

  • All courses will start with classroom based sessions, and then move outside, you will have time to get changed.
  • Coaching courses will stay close to the facilities throughout and return to the classroom for breaks.
  • Leadership courses will journey away from the Centre and participants will need to bring a packed meal.
